Robot Chicken: Star Wars

FROM THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER...
'Star Wars,' Lucas prey for 'Chicken'
By Nellie Andreeva
April 25, 2007

"Robot Chicken" creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich are channeling their inner geeks with "Robot Chicken: Star Wars," a special for Adult Swim.

The 30-minute stop-motion animation special, directed by Green, spoofs key scenes and favorite characters from the "Star Wars" universe, including the sci-fi saga's creator, George Lucas. It was done in collaboration with Lucasfilm, and Lucas is on board to voice the animated version of himself.

Additionally, "Robot Chicken: Star Wars" will feature Mark Hamill as the voice of Luke Skywalker in one sketch and a voice cast that includes Conan O'Brien, Seth MacFarlane, Robert Smigel, Malcolm McDowell, Hulk Hogan, James Van Der Beek, Donald Faison, Abraham Benrubi, Breckin Meyer and Joey Fatone.

The special, from Green and Senreich's Stoopid Monkey Prods. and Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico's ShadowMachine Films, will premiere at 10 p.m. June 17 on Adult Swim, kicking off a best-of "Robot Chicken" marathon that will feature "Star Wars" reruns at the top of every hour.

The special stems from three "Star Wars" skits on "Robot Chicken," including the popular "Emperor's Phone Call," featuring Darth Vader calling Emperor Palpatine to tell him that the Death Star has been blown up. Reps for Lucasfilm wanted to post that sketch on StarWars.com, and they set up a meeting with Green and Senreich that turned into a pitch meeting for a special.

"We were big fans of the work that Matt and Seth had done, so when they approached us about the idea to make a 'Robot Chicken' episode dedicated to 'Star Wars,' we were really enthusiastic about it," said Tom Warner, Lucasfilm's senior director of marketing.

The "Star Wars" special was developed with Lucasfilm's approval at every stage. The company also helped with sound files on Chewbacca and R2-D2.

Like just about every child in 1977, Green saw the first "Star Wars" movie.

"It informed my whole creative sensibility, and the 'Star Wars' toys I played with in my childhood inspired my imagination," Green said. "I've always wanted to be a part of a 'Star Wars' project, and I got to make one."

And he got to direct Lucas.

"It was really exciting," Green said. "He was very shy but very playful."

"Robot Chicken: Star Wars" was created and executive produced by Green and Senreich, who also exec produce, write and direct the series, now in production on its third season.

"Seth and Matt are two of the biggest 'Star Wars' geeks I have ever met," said Adult Swim's Keith Crofford, who also is exec producing the special with Mike Lazzo.

"They are the perfect pair to bring 'Robot Chicken' to the 'Star Wars' audience." The series head writer-producers Tom Root and Douglas Goldstein penned the special with Meyer, Mike Fasolo, Hugh Sterbakov, Jordan Allen-Dutton and Erik Weiner.

HACKED! & Comic Con 2006

Well, the forum has been officially hacked by someone. Hooray! I am so glad! Because that means that our little website got the well deserved attention we have desired all these years! It will be fixed soon...hopefully. Anyone with any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Comic Con International in San Diego was amazing. I only had 2 days to spend there this year because of my new job and work schedule, but much fun was had and the people at Robot Chicken were awesome as always. Thanks to Seth and Matt for the hugs....way better than an autograph any day. My report and pictures to come soon.

Anyone who would like to help contribute to the site to get it back up to date for the new season, please email me.

What'cha gonna do brother when Hulkamania runs wild on you?

So Hulk Hogan just came in and did voices for the show! And rumor has it that Seth/Matt will end up on his "Hogan Knows Best" VH-1 show (though Matt doesn't want anyone to know that as he hates being in front of a camera). What kind of sketches does Hulk Hogan partake in? Well, let's just say he plays himself as well as a few other famous historical figures including one famous President.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey guys! Long time no see. The news from Robot Chicken is that they are in production with Season 2! Hooray! Which, from what I remember hearing at Comic-con means that the Season 1 DVD shouldn't be far behind.

As of the update on November 22nd, they are in the midst of filming episodes 3 & 4. That and the inter-office ping pong double-elimination competition is underway! Matt lost in the first round and Seth won his first match.

Robot Chicken also has a page and message board on MySpace. Please show your support by adding them as a friend, subscribing to their blog and buying a Stoopid Monkey T-shirt!

Also, check out this new interview with Seth and Matt on [adult swim].com

Back from Comic-con!

Hello everyone! =wendy lady= is back from San Diego Comic-con. Much fun was had! So much that I had to write an entire ranting essay about how cool it was and the experiences I'd like to share with you. Click here for the full report.

This last Sunday was the last episode of the 1st season of Robot Chicken. It was ended with a nice little You Can't Do that on Television parody. For those of us that remember the show, Robot Chicken hit it right on the head with the sketch. But no Alanis Morisette?

Don't think that iheartrobotchicken.com will be giving up during the repeats. Oh no! We will be a force stronger than ever. The fans who were late into the season will get to see the episodes they missed and their bloodlust for more Robot Chicken will need to be quenched. We will show them the way, my dear friends! Bring them to me on a silver platter so I can dine on the flesh of the faithful! Muahahahaha!

ahem.

Stay tuned this week for more updates to the Episode Guide and the Comic-con report from Parent's Basement Guy.
